Bridgestone Capital purchased NuWood Cabinets in 2015, providing the expertise and financial backing to grow the business through the creation of a robust e-commerce platform. Bridgestone is a closely held, family run private equity firm primarily focused on acquiring companies in Wisconsin and aiming to realize long term value through a buy and hold strategy as an active operating partner with an often multi decade ownership period.

Since the beginning, NuWood Cabinets has been a family business. Gene Hagemann started in Racine, Wisconsin in a shop at the back of a local hardware store. His passion for woodworking, antique restoration and refurbishing old clock cabinets quickly led to a reputation for producing high quality custom kitchens, doors, windows, and spiral staircases as well as jigs for some of Racine’s largest manufacturers including Modine, J I Case and Dremel. In 1962, he needed a much larger space and purchased a building in Racine large enough for a shop with employees and a showroom. In addition to his wife and her sister, all of Gene’s five children worked for the business as well.

Phill Hagemann took over the business from his father in 1986 and maintained the family tradition. NuWood Cabinets purchased the former Badger Woodworking building 11 years later as it continued to grow. This allowed for additional employees, a shipping dock and a larger showroom. As they have grown, NuWood Cabinets has continually upgraded materials and construction to ensure that there is no better product on the market. That commitment to quality American craftsmanship continues today, over 60 years later, with beautiful, unique and affordable handcrafted custom cabinetry specifically designed and built to order for each customer.
